Strahan

Historically Strahan has been a port to a small fishing fleet that braves the west coast conditions and Hell's Gates. Now days it's the port for Gordon River Cruises and other wilderness tours.

Pioneer Museum

The Zeehan School of Mines and Metallurgy was established in 1892 and ran courses in geology, assaying and surveying. Today it has been converted into the Zeehan Museum.

Gordon River Cruises

How could any visit to Tasmania be complete without a cruise on the world-famous Gordon River? The fight to save this natural treasure in the early 1980's attracted international attention and support.

Montezuma Falls Walk

Situated just south of Rosebery, the car park near the old Williamsford township is the place to start.
One of the best walks on the West Coast should not be missed.
A 3 hour return walk along an old tramway through delightful rainforest is the reward for the stroll.

Queenstown

The mountains surrounding Queenstown have unusual pink and grey hues that come from the conglomerate rocks on the two most adjacent mountains - Mount Lyell and Mount Owen.

Wilderness Railway

The West Coast Wilderness Railway is a steam train journey through mountainous Tasmanian wilderness from Queenstown to Strahan and return. Tours depart daily.

Henty Dunes

20 minutes drive south of Zeehan are the Henty Dunes. A vast expanse of sand dunes extending several kilometres inland. Pine plantations have attempted to stop the migration of the dunes inland.

Nelson Falls

Along the boardwalk to Nelson Falls you will come across interpretation panels highlighting the ancient plants you see along the way, including at least seven species of fern.

Hogarth Falls

This track is located in the Peoples Park in the Strahan township. You can drive to the park via The Esplanade or walk there via the Foreshore Walking Track.
This walk will take you through an example of mixed forest. Among the towering gum trees, you will also find species typical of cool temperate rainforest, such as leatherwood, sassafrass and myrtle.

Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach is a long stretch of beach running north of Macquarie Heads and Hells Gates on the West Coast of Tasmania.

Macqaurie Heads

Macquarie Heads and Hell's Gates is the name of the mouth of Macquarie Harbour on the West Coast of Tasmania. It is a notoriously shallow and dangerous channel entrance to the harbour.

Lake Burbury

Lake Burbury Was formed on the King River in the early 1990's as part of Tasmania's Hydro Electricity Network. It has been well stocked with Trout and is now one of the best fishing spots about.
